Saturday November 30, 2013 - DRUMS, BELLS & HORNS: A CHRISTMAS FANTASY. The 19th Annual Christmas Concert - 7:30 pm at the Temple Theatre
A long standing tradition in Saginaw, the Eddy Band will present a free Christmas Concert for the entire family in the historic Temple Theatre. This concert has been an annual event where families that have gathered for the Thanksgiving holiday begin looking forward to all of the joy of the Christmas season.
Conductor Paul Lichau has selected a variety of modern and traditional seasonal favorites that will be enjoyable for all ages.
A fanfare based on "O Come All Ye Faithful" will open the program followed by a new setting of Christmas Carols as one might hear them in a New England town square. Terry Lenz, the Voice of the Eddy Band for the summer concerts, will be featured as the narrator of the story of "I Heard the Bells On Christmas Day." Christmas songs with a modern flair will be heard in "A Gleeful Christmas" - tunes that have been featured on the Christmas edition of the television hit "Glee."
A medley of selections from the Gian Carlo Menotti's seasonal opera "Amahl and the Night Visitors" will be highlighted in the second half of the program along with the familiar seasonal selection "Carol of the Drum" by Katherine Davis.
An email has been sent to the North Pole inviting Santa Claus to attend the concert and an early response has indicated that he will try to be there!
Admission is free, however we urge everyone to bring a non-perishable food item for the Salvation Army's "Food For Families" campaign.
Place this date on your calendars now so that you will not miss this very popular Saginaw event!
